OLW Blog Hop

Xnomads' Blog

Welcome to the Monthly One Little Word Blog Hop! We are a group of students from Ali Edwards' One Little Word Class at Big Picture Classes. The other blog posts on other blogs won’t go live until 8 AM PST. A lot of you are finding me from Kelly's awesome blog if you are on the blog hop, and next you will go to Jill's very cool blog (be sure to check out her photography) ...see the links and blog hop list at the end of this post.

The blog hop is to share our monthly prompt from Ali. The June prompt was to get messy and paint, collage, have some fun!

June Assignment
My word is "Fabulous". I was inspired to make my own "She Art", for the very first time. It's my first attempt, so please be kind! LOL

My color for this prompt was red, which is a main color in my OLW 2011 album.
I did meditate on the word Fabulous while I created my project, so there is some glitter, plus some iridescent pink star glitter/sparkles from Martha Stewart (which photographed more goldish).

The quote "She needs a little fabulous, is that so wrong?" was adapted from lyrics from this song.

I am not using the Pink Paislee divided page protectors, so instead of the 9 mini collages, I decided to make a 12x12 page. I have never made a She Art canvas so I thought I'd try my hand at one, inspired by Christy Tomlinson. I found this tutorial online by Christy, and based my painting on it:

See more of Christy's work at:

For my project: I used for the background a Claudine Hellmuth Sticky Back Canvas 12" x 12". I used acrylic paints, gel matte medium, Tattered Angels Stencils, Studio Calico Mist, Book paper, Water-Soluble Crayons, rub-ons, Copic marker (black), Spellbinder Nestabilities Scallop Circle Die Cut, My Mind's Eye Lost and Found Stamp, Prima Marketing, Inc. embellishment, Pebbles Inc. Glitter, Stampin' Up Stamp Marker, Bubble Wrap....I think that is about everything for supplies.

It was really fun to make this collage and I can see how it can become addicting. I thought the 12x12 format was very challenging. I would make the next one on a rectagular canvas for sure. As far as meditating on my word Fabulous, it was a good reminder to just re-affirm to myself that I am fabulous, that we are each fabulous just for being born.

It's fabulous to create art. It's fabulous to know that I'll be sharing this project today with all of you kind readers. I have to give many many thanks to the following fabulous artists for their inspiration as well.... these artists were found on my latest addiction Pinterest. I've gone from totally ignoring my membership on Pinterest for months, to spending 10 minutes a week on there, to spending at least an hour a day on Pinterest. Here are some amazing She Art artists that inspired me:

Absolutely awesome (or day I say FABULOUS?)for a first shot at it Julie! If you enjoyed the getting messy process, you would LOVE Christy's She Art and Three Hearts classes... sooooo much content there! And so much fun! Not that you really need any instruction. You have it nailed already!

She is simply Fabulous! I took Christy's She Art class and made a girl, too. It was so much fun. I will definitely check out your art journaling class, too. I've been wanting to spend some time art journaling, but I never seem to find the time. Hopefully I'll sneak some creative time in this month and rejoin the blog hop next month :-)

Fantastic or I should say FABULOUS, of course. She Art looks like so much fun. I'm not exactly sure what "She Art' is, I must admit. It seems to me that it is collage art with a figure of a girl or woman and typically a quote on the canvas. Is there a specific definition? I love how yours turned out - great artistic meditation for June's prompt.
