My March Counterfeit Kit

Main Kit: Catalina Island

For my kit, I focused on the blue hues as I didn't have any blue/yellow combination papers, nor any of the Authentique or MME papers found in the inspiration kit. This was quite a challenge for me, as I tend to use aqua blues more instead of this true blue/denim blue.

Embellishments

Even though the original inspiration kit was on the small side, I pulled a lot of embellishments for this kit according to colors the co-ordinated. I also kept them to a feminine feel. I included two chipboard mini albums that I'd like to make...not sure what they'll end up being, but I've had them for years and I'd like to use them.

Journaling Add On Kit

Since I like to think I am passionate about journaling, I pulled a lot of journaling spots too. Many of them are pre-stamped spots.

Embellishment Add-On Kit

Yes, there are more embellishments! Chipboard, brads, punched circles, tape, beads, buttons, rubons, and also pictured are mists, ink, and paint dabbers.

"What's the next step???

Via the CKC Blog, "The CHALLENGE is to use this kit for inspiration. How, you ask? Well, there are many ways to go about this. Here are a few ideas...

Try and match every piece in the kit as close as possible to something from your supply stash.
Use the "kit contents" as inspiration, and recreate your own kit with the same types of supplies, but in a different color or style that corresponds better with your preferences/photographs/scrapbook style/tastes.
Make an even smaller "page kit" or "card kit"..."counterfeiting" just a few items from this month's kit as inspiration.
Using the color scheme from the kits as inspiration, try to re-create a kit of your own using whatever supplies you have available.

February Counterfeit Kit Challenge #1: Love Letter

LOVE LETTER CHALLENGE: Include a "love" letter on your layout to let that person know how much they mean to you.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's or non-Valentine's Day, whatever floats your boat! <3

Here is my layout for the Counterfeit Kit Challenge #1: Love Letter

I had actually written a love letter a few weeks ago, and must have deleted it by accident. So, being frustrated, I decided to take the Valentine's Playlist I made on Spotify, and use lyrics from each song to write a love letter to my husband. The photo is from our recent vacation to Miami. My husband loved the letter!

"My Vision For Health" 2012 Art Journaling Prompts

At the Studio Tangie Blog, I have been writing articles for Art Journaling 102 since the New Year began, and with a fresh theme as well, which we call “My Vision for 2012″. Each month we will have a different focus or sub-theme such as Health, Knowledge, Creativity, Family, Dreams, Abundance, etc. We will have journaling prompts geared toward this theme. In January for our sub-theme was Health…so our pages all related to Our Vision for 2012: Health. For February, our sub-theme is Knowledge.

New Scrap Layout To Share Plus Family History Journaling Prompts

Here's a new layout using my February Counterfeit Kit that I shared yesterday. I've been thinking a lot lately how many scrap layouts that I have of my husband and myself, of the family members and friends I'm closest too, and how I need to scrap more of the extended family members as I am the main scrapbooker/ photographer/historian in the family.

This layout is of my grandparents as they started their life together. Journaling: "Frieda and Ray were forever sweethearts. They married in the 1940's and raised 4 girls, one would become my mother. They lived a long life, always together, side by side."

This Month's Inspiration Kit...

The February 2012 Inspiration Kit is your choice of two kits released in January and February by Scrapbook Circle. The first choice is their Valentine's Themed Kit called "You and Me", the second choice is their December Kit called "Note to Self". Feel free to counterfeit one or both kits!

MY FEBRUARY KIT: SWEETHEARTS

I decided to do my kit this month all digi.I pulled some kraft papers as inspired by the inspiration kit. Also added the herringbone inspired by the paper in the inspiration kit. Then the other papers were from Valentine-type digi kits that I had. For elements, I had the Jenni Bowlin Bingo card from when she used to sell digi at wearestorytellers.com (now closed). I added in a honeycomb element from Rhonna Farrer. Of course there is a doily, and I altered a playing card with the letter "L" for love. Then I added in my favorite Valentine elements from various kits. I pulled five alphabets that I thought would be perfect. Product list is below.

Counterfeit Kit Challenge - Paper Instructions Part 1

Thanks for visiting me on the blog hop yesterday. This is one of the papers I made for my January Kit: Snow Crystal Chronicle (shown before I adhered the parts to the base). I promised I'd share step-by-step instructions for the counterfeited papers, so this is the first one.

Instructions:

1. I started off with four papers (Kraft, diecut paper, vintage music paper with design spray-painted on it in silver, and butterfly paper which is not shown), scissors, and pen

2. I started tracing the diecut paper on the vintage music paper along the long side of the music paper, one side only.

2. Then I traced the opposite side.

3. Then line up the top as best you can, and trace that.

4. Finish tracing the bottom. Then cut inside the lines.

5. Place the vintage music paper inside the diecut paper once it's cut to your satisfaction.

6. With the butterfly paper, start by cutting out the large butterfly.

7. Fussy cut around the edges of the butterfly.

8. Place it in the lower right corner.

9. Fussy cut the large doily from the butterfly paper and place behind the large butterfly.

10. Cut out another doily to add to the left of the butterfly, and a small butterfly for the upper left corner. That's it, you're finished!

I promised a few days ago that I would share the products I'm using for my December Daily Journal. I am doing it digi for 2011. I love that you can buy digi products from paper manufacturers, as I tend to keep the
same products from year to year for my Christmas Journals. So next year, I might mix it up and do paper + digi.

This is an add-on page next to Day Four so when I print my pages, I have enough, since Day Five is a two-pager. If that makes sense?

December 5th - Instead of an Advent, I scrapped both the December and January calendars because I won't see my side of the family until mid-January. It's the soonest we can arrange to get together with work schedules and all, and it works because it's Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday so my sister might have it off with her new job. I wrote down 25 things to do, which apparently was jumping the gun a bit on the December 7th prompt! Oh well. These printable calendars are just adorable, I found them on Pinterest from Anythingbutperfect.com

December 6th - Going rogue with this prompt...saw a layout on Pinterest where they had scrapped the Christmas wishlist so that's where I got this idea. Since the pre-made digi tag only numbered to "5", I wrote out each person's top five wishes. We prioritize our wishlists on Amazon. New this year include wishlists for my six-month old nephew, and for my "furbaby" Friday. LOL

December 7th - Since I already did the To Do list a few days ago, this one I focused on my feelings about shopping. I'm pretty sure I wrote about this last year or the year before but I'll have to go back and look, it'll be interesting to see if I wrote the same thing...most likely because my feelings are the same. This year there are more details though. This is my little wishlist I made for my doggie, just in case my family feels sorry for me that I don't have a baby of my own. LOL

Of all the five or six years I've been doing Journal Your Christmas, this is the most journaling I've ever written for this prompt, usually it's just been a visual page for me. I'm rather proud of getting more writing in although it's nothing earth-shattering. :)

Journal Your Christmsas/ December Daily Day 1

Here we go again! Happy December to all. I have decided to do my 2011 JYC album in digital, and as I posted earlier, I will finish my 2010 album with the kit shown a few days ago.

Today we again had another unseasonably warm day, as we had most of November. November was full of 60 degree Farenheit days, warm and sunny. Not the dull gray November that I'm used to here in the Northeast. I spent the afternoon at the chiropractor, who is really awesome. He ran late because his office was full of patients. Driving home, I noticed Christmas lights on houses and thought that we ought to take an early drive to look at lights, even though it's a Christmas eve tradition. I took my dog for a walk when I got home, and my neighbor was out with her new little puppie Maltie-poo in her yard. My dog loves her, he jumped on her lap and was so excited to see her. Later in the evening, at home, my husband and I reserved a vacation rental for Miami in 2012...and we are also going to Sedona in 2012 so it's looking like a great travel year already. I spoke to my sister briefly, but I want to see if we can all go to together to take her son to see Santa when Mom visits or if her and her husband want to go alone. I want to put these thoughts in my Christmas journal sometime.

Home Decor Blog Hop for Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog & December Daily Kit

The blog hop challenge for November was to make a home decor item. This is also a design team project for Say It With Letters. I took the wooden tree shape from SIWL and painted it this fresh green color, then added glitter. Then I made flowers from my Nestabilities die, in patterned paper that matches my December Daily Kit that is posted below. I used embossed black cardstock for the tree base. I just love the finished result.

I also made a kit for December Daily.

Now I have to confess that the album in the middle is my album from last year that I barely got past day three. I'm not sure if I'm going to use it for 2011 yet or if I'm going to try to complete 2010 and 2011 at the same time, using the storybook as the album for 2011. This will be year 5? that I've joined Shimelle's Journal Your Christmas.

Tag You're It!

At the Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog, the first Challenge this month is to Use Tags on Your Project. Here, above, are tags I made for my layout. I used chipboard pieces (one border I cut up for three tags), collage tape, trims, bling, brads, and findings! I cut the bottom of the tags for a pennant look.

My Layout


Sightseeing In Downtown Cleveland

This layout features a few of the photos we took in downtown Cleveland this summer. We were there for my family's reunion picnic, so we stayed an extra day for sight-seeing. We did the museums already, but we didn't see some of the sights downtown. The photos are in the Arcade and Tower City Center (Terminal Tower).

I cut one of the stickers that said "Oh So Lovely" in half, and put it on either side of my middle photograph.

I used one of my handmade medallions between two Prima flowers. You can see I concentrated on layering on this layout. I know I have a lot going on, I am not a simple scrapper.

Here I layered the ric-rak, crocheted trim, and then added a gingham bow. I thought putting a brad through the middle would be cute. I had to use my crop-a-dile to make a hole for the brad.

It doesn't show well in the photo, but I used clear letter stickers to write "down town" between "in" and cleveland".

Life is Good (Together)

Here is the first of two layouts to share today, that went together pretty quick with my November Counterfeit Kit, using one of my mini page kits that I assembled (seen below). Thanks for your comments, hopefully it helped some of you to scrap faster too!

I wrote the journaling in with the text patterned paper. The photo was taken in Mexico for a trip for my 40th birthday so the journaling just talks about how this trip was a dream of a lifetime, and how grateful I was to my husband.

Here is the second layout to share today. This photo was taken this summer at our family reunion, of just my immediate family, plus my husband, and new nephew. I used the following mini page kit from my November Main Kit...(plus a thing here or there from other page kits in the November Main Kit: Blessings and Heartstrings).

I used the stencil from this kit and a white glimmermist with a gold tint that doesn't quite come across in the photos. I ought to look at the actual glimmermist, I suppose. (photo below)

I used my November Counterfeit Kit right away to make this altered record for my nephew as a gift for his birthday.

You see, this year, we had a music theme going for his gifts as my husband gave him a bunch of albums and 45 records to play on his turntable. Here is a photo of my nephew opening his gift yesterday at his party....everyone wanted him to pass it around so they could take a closer look.

My Kit: Blessings and Heartstrings

I divided my Main Kit this month into Page Kits as suggested on the Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog under how to use Kits.

Here are the Mini Page Kits...

I think this first kit might be for a vacation or summer layout. I love the aqua and red color combo and of course, the wood grain. A couple journaling blocks that mimic the whimsical frames in the patterned paper by Sassafrass. Yummy flowers by Prima.

Total 7gypsies vibe here based on the Life Is Good paper. Vintage is the name of the game here. I can't wait to play with this page kit.

I've already played with this page kit a little, and ended up doing something totally different than what I expected! I had to add a few things in order to accomplish the project as it was a gift. Maybe I'll share tomorrow!

Pretty in pink is this page kit. Perhaps I'll make a layout about a summer picnic or a gratitude page about friendships.

Garden delights and all things floral. If you don't quite recognize the orange paper, it's because I spray-painted a pattern over the patterned paper.

October Assignment

For October, Ali asked us to pick 9 photos that we feel represent our word for a collage, plus a larger photo with journaling on it.

I chose to pick a photo from each month that just felt fabulous to me. It may or may not make sense to you, as they are personally meaningful. So are obvious, such as my newborn nephew where I took the first family portrait (which I tried to fit into the collage but it was too wide) or my nephew that graduated from high school where I was at his house to take his photo.

Journaling: hello fabulous october 2011

I still want to make happen with my word "Fabulous" a thrilling change in my self-image, by taking loving self-care of myself. I've felt hindered by my injuries this year, and now I feel I'm turning the corner on this. The action item for me is “magic” as we turn toward the rest of the holidays, and as I write this on Halloween night - we have a good start at a magical night. I was really into Halloween this year, I decorated the house this year and dressed up Friday (our dog) as a bumblebee. We are having Thanksgiving at our house, and we are not going on vacation in December... so we can focus on the fabulous magic.

Journaling explained:

If you remember the last few months of my OLW entries where I mentioned I experienced set-backs due to plantar fasciitis and hip problems. My hip is much better (yay!), and I have a lot of hope for my plantar fasciitis. I got an early Christmas present as my husband bought me a home ultrasound machine on Amazon, kind of like they use in physical therapy centers, yet made for home use (not the kind used for maternity and ob-gyn! LOL) So I kept the referral to that very short in my journaling, as I said I see myself turning the corner.Once I overcome the pain due to these problems, I hope I'll lose weight by exercising back on a regular schedule without babying the feet or hip. I have one appointment coming up for endomitriosis on Nov. 3 and hopefully next blog hop I will have more good news to report.

The last 3 or 4 years we have taken vacations in early December to Florida or Mexico. This year we are staying home in December and not only that, having my husband's family to our home for Thanksgiving! So home for the holidays all around. I do like that. Although I really like vacations in warm places since it's already really cold here, it's rather stressful to take a big vacation right before Christmas. This let's me focus on making "magic." How fabulous!!!!

Counterfeit Kit Challenge Pumpkin Patch Page Kit, Sketch and Pumpkin Tutorial!

Welcome! I have put together for the Counterfeit Kit Challenge a Pumpkin Patch Page Kit and picked out a sketch for you! Unfortunately, when I made my page kit, I had not seen this month's inspiration kits. I even finished my layout! Then imagine my disappointment when I saw the Halloween Inspiration Kit, with the same colors! Hopefully, if you want to do a Pumpkin Patch Page kit, you'll find something in my kit that you'll find inspiration for, including my pumpkin tutorial!

Now obviously this page kit is a bit big for one page kit. The hazards of shopping at home for free!!!!

October Master Forgers Blog Hop!

Hello friends! It's time for the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog hop! This month we had a really fun theme for the blog hop: BLOG HOP CHALLENGE: Alter some stickers and use them in an unexpected way on your project. Let's see if we can even recognize them as stickers any more!

Here is a preview of my finished layout:

My Take on The Challenge

I gathered various border stickers and washi tape for this project. I also grabbed the packaging from some rub-ons that I will recycle (not shown in photo).

Next, I put the border stickers, washi tape, and fabri-strips on the packaging. Then I layered more on top, especially scallops and pennants.

I found this download for a hexagon pattern. I re-sized it in Photoshop Elements for my project. If you would like 5 pre-set sizes from 3/4" to 1.5" hexagons, try this link.

Use the pattern sheet as a guide for cutting the hexagons from the layered sticker sheet.

With the left-over from the sticker sheet, I ran it through my Big Shot and used a die to cut a doily for use as an embellishment, as you'll see on the layout.

I added text to this photo before printing it out, and I used the following sketch...

Favorite Dress, Halloween Banner and More!

Here is a layout using my October Counterfeit Kit, I used a sketch from the PageMaps 2011 Wall Calendar. I'm a little distracted by my 18-year old cousin who is missing. I've posted the info on my Facebook page. Please send prayers that no harm has come her way, although I'm starting to fear the worst. If anyone has advice for preventing your worst fears from getting the best of you, it would be appreciated, (other than losing myself in Pinterest for hours, LOL).

Candy Inspiration Challenge

Today's Challenge at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog:

Use candy to inspire your project! Pick your favorite candy and use the colors/packaging/reason it is your favorite and get to creating something great!

I was inspired by my favorite Reeses' Peanut Butter Cups to make these medallions. I'll share some tutorial links below. I used black cardstock- I think 1.5" x 12", and folded it every 3/8" or so. I used vintage dictionary paper and kraft cardstock and my nestability dies for the centers. I added silver glitter to the middle. These will eventually go on a Halloween banner, you'll have to check back next week to see the banner. Oh, and if you want to see the tutorial for the DIY Designer Pumpkin that I wrote, you can get it here.

October Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog Time!

Hello friends! It's October 6th and the Master Forgers (that's me now!) are sharing their Counterfeit Kits.

It's always exciting for the reveal of the new kit every month. I love this month's kits. And this month I had the opportunity to create a Pumpkin Patchpage kit too (to be revealed later this month)! Ok, now for the good stuff, without any further delay, drumroll please:

This Month's Inspiration Kit...

Again, the October 2011 Inspiration Kit is going to be a kit from 2010. Starting next month we will be featuring more current kit clubs once again. But for October we are going to be working with 2 kits from Little Red Scrapbook

You can view the September/October 2010 inspiration kits (and the lists of contents) from Little Red Scrapbook here. There are two kits to choose from, feel free to counterfeit either of the kits. If you want to do both of them, that's great too!

My October Main Kit: As Summer Into Autumn Slips

I named my Main Kit "As Summer Into Autumn Slips" after a famous poem because there are still warm days left here in October, and the colors in this kit remind me of summer, and I have plenty of summer photos left to scrap!

The Inspiration Kit from Little Red Scrapbook was pinks, greens, yellows, and light blues which is were I took my cue for the color scheme. Since LRS had used co-ordinating papers from American Crafts Dear Lizzy, I decided to do something similiar and use co-ordinating papers from Cosmo Cricket.

I took a lot of time to hand-make these embellishments, inspired by the yo-yo's in the Inspiration Kit. I wanted the embellishments to co-ordinate with the style of the graphics in the paper, as you see above. Plus I'm a crocheting fool these days, so a little crocheted goodies too!

Here are some online tutorials for making these type of embellishments. I could some of these write tutorials, but it's already been done!

Halloween Art Journal

I'm doing a Halloween Art Journal with Studio Tangie!

I posted yesterday on the Studio Tangie blog the start of my Halloween Art Journal. You can read about my first nine background pages here, and see it in the Scrapbookgraphics gallery here.

Then I printed out a few pages and some cut-out embellishments to make a hybrid mini art journal. This is what it looked like after I printed it all and cut it out.

I printed out pieces from Tangie's Art Journal Workshop Kit, as well as from Tangie's Halloween Magic Collab, and Tangie's Featured Kit at My Scrapbook Art right now: Moonlight Hollow.

Instructions:

For the hybrid cover, I used water-soluble crayons along the edges.
I adhered the page to the cardboard piece with purple paint. I was a little messy with the paint.
I ripped some of the cardboard away from the corner and folded it down.
I tucked a pin in the corner.
I added mini letter stickers to spell out "art journal".
I put the circle out-outs on pop-dots and added them to the cover.
I put the felt hat on a pop-dot and added it to the pumpkin stack.
Then I punched the holes in the side.

Here's a shot of what the bare album looks like...a mix of carboard and scalloped chipboard pages...all from Prima.

October 2: Memories of Halloween Past

Journaling: Today's entry is about childhood memories of Halloween. I remember when Mom made me a Wonderwoman costume in 2nd grade. One year I was Princess Leah of Star Wars, and Mom gave me side buns just like hers. The game that stands out most is bobbing for apples. One year Aunt Lois and Uncle Bob scared us at our party by walking down the stairs (to scary music) as Mr. and Mrs. Frankenstein. I remember having to wear snowsuits under our costumes one year. My favorite (memory) is long walks on Walker Lake Road in Ontario with Dad and our neighbors on Halloween night. In college, costumes were simple. I would wear black, and a mask and say I was a cat. The last costume I wore won a prize at a party for being an angel with real feather wings.

Again, I printed it out with the title and graphics. I handwrote the journaling, and then added in some extra depth with water-soluble crayons.I adhered the page to the journal with purple paint and sealed the edges with paint.

One Little Word Monthly Blog Hop: October!

I'm the second stop, if you would enjoy starting from the beginning, you may start here. The blog hop goes live at 8 a.m. PACIFIC Time.

Everyone is welcome to hop along the Blog Hop, which is made up of a group from Ali Edwards' Yearlong Big Picture Class One Little Word. Once a month, we organize a blog hop to share our monthly assignment from the class.

September's Assignment

"Last month we took a breath. This month we are choosing a battle." -Ali

Step 1.
The first step in Ali's assignment was to read a story by Andrea Scher, about her one little word and how it's played out in her life this year. I love this quote from a story within her story, "that they (Buddhists) believe when a lot of things are going wrong all at once, it is to protect something big and lovely that is trying to get itself born-and that this something needs for you to be distracted so that it can be born as perfectly as possible.” © ANDREA SCHER

I relate to this so well as I thought one benefit of choosing the word Fabulous for my word for my Fortieth Year of Life would be to focus on fitness and health and I'd craft a better-looking body. However, since January, this has not worked quite in my favor, as I hoped. I started out at the beginning of the year dealing with my chronic shoulder pain from an old car accident. I had been getting injections for the pain, however this year I decided to try physical therapy instead, for both shoulders and bear it out without any injections. I'm glad to say I made it through and my shoulders are now healed from physical therapy.

Then, also early in the year, my left ankle/foot was in pain and I started physical therapy for that as well. I stopped taking my dog on long walks and instead just a short 5 or 1o minute walk. It took several months for my left ankle to heal. It was almost fully healed by spring, when I was taking a belly-dancing class, my left-hip happened to start flaring in major pain, a bit of bursitis and who knows what else. So more physical therapy, and grinning and bearing the pain through belly-dancing in the meantime. By now, I have lots and lots of physical therapy exercises to rotate through. I do have to say, my therapist, Dr. Heather at Callan-Harris in Rochester, is amazing.

If all those injuries (I use that term lightly because they are more flare-ups than actual injuries) weren't enough, by late-August...I developed plantar fasciitis in my right foot! I couldn't bear weight on it. I couldn't walk. This has been the most frustrating of all the injuries.
To go back to the quote above from Andrea's story, I sure hope all of these things going wrong with my body is indeed "a distraction for something... big and lovely.... to be... born as perfectly as possible!"

Step Two.
The second step is "think about your current battles, and to go back to May's Assignment, and look at what you documented as your "tasks/missions/objectives/thoughts/things to tackle".

Belly Dancing - Has this task changed? Yes. I completed the class in May. I decided not to take any additional classes this year, so I've let it go.
Sensation: excitement and interest - Has this task changed? No, this task has not changed, I still want to invite sensation into my life. Observations: Made my mother an exciting birthday gift; visited my niece in her freshman dorm and took her out to lunch; visited my 4-month old nephew; encouraged husband to take us out on the boat on good weather days
Romance: love story - Has this task changed? No, this task has not changed, I still want to invite romance into our life and marriage. Observations: A lot of communication, as well as teamwork in antiquing and nesting with our home to make it romantic, comfortable, and suited for us.
Stories: documenting - Has this task changed? No, this task has not changed, I still want tell the stories and document them. Observations: I am firmly keeping a foot planted in each and both the digital and paper worlds of scrapping. I did not get as many pages completed this summer as I would have liked, however, now that I am on the Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog Team I plan to get many more pages completed. I do see I am more satisfied with the pages I have completed. I am also keeping up with One Little Word as best I can.
Miracles: any amazing or wonderful occurrence- Has this task changed? No, this task has not changed, I still want to invite miracles into my life. Observations: One of my favorite miracles right now is seeing my baby nephew grow. Also I think it's a miracle that my husband has bought new furniture for our kitchen that I picked out and he helped locate online. How fabulous is that?
Surprises: sudden unexpected events - Has this task changed? No, this task has not changed, I still want to invite surprises into my life, as long as they are positive, loving, healing, fabulous surprises! No more surprises in the form of flare-ups and unwanted health issues. Observations: My husband surprised me by offering to help my father fix his roof.
Action: put in effect - Has this task changed? No, this task has not changed, I still want to invite action into my life. Observations: I've taken lots of action this month. I've been very active posting on the Studio Tangie blog, and wrote up a blog schedule through December 31st, 2011. I also learned to crochet last month and have been crocheting everyday. I mentioned that Dave and I have been antiquing/going to flea markets/thrifting and decorating our home. I am maintaining my health by keeping all my doctor appointments, doing my exercises, walking the dog, using the exercise bike, and eating right.
Magic: any extraordinary or mystical influence, charm, power, etc. - Has this task changed? No, this task has not changed, I still want to invite magic into my life. Observations: Magical evenings with my husband; other private observations put in my bedside journal.

Step Three. Choose a Battle to Fight.

A battle I'm choosing to fight: The biggest battle I’m choosing to fight right now is to fight for my health, and that means taking care of the biggest priority - plantar fasciitis in my right foot. If I don’t fight this, I can’t bear weight on my foot, I can’t walk, I can’t exercise myself nor my dog, and I can’t maintain nor lose weight. I need to do this to be Fabulous.

The first step I'm taking in this battle: Schedule appointment with podiatrist. (Then follow what he says to do!)

A battle I'm choosing to surrender: I’m choosing to surrender grudges and bitterness. “Holding a grudge against someone is like allowing them to live rent-free in your head.” -Unknown I have actually gone through with this surrender on several relationships, and I feel much happier. I’m not perfect yet. There is still one grudge that will take a bit longer for me to surrender fully.

Current thoughts on my word: It felt fabulous to teach Reid how to swim before we closed the pool. It felt fabulous to make the team for the Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog. It felt fabulous to visit my niece at the University of Buffalo and take her out to lunch, and to visit my sister and my baby nephew as well. It felt fabulous to have my mom visit for a few days, and take her thrifting, her favorite thing. It felt fabulous to nest and decorate the house. It’s fabulous to love and be loved by my husband.

Congratulations to the Newest Master Forgers!!! I made it!!!

I've been watching my inbox all weekend for an email for the Design Team call for the Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog. Nothing.

So I happened to be surfing and decided to check up on the CKCB and they surprised us! They posted the announcement as a surprise! My heart literally stopped beating. September 1 One Little Word Blog Hop

What is OLW Blog Hop? We are a group of students from Ali Edwards' OLW class at Big Picture Classes who are sharing our monthly homework assignment via a blog hop. You can view my previous OLW Blog posts here.

August Assignment: This month's assignment was fairly basic. It was about taking a breather.

There were two parts to the assignment.

Take a photo of yourself.
Add a couple of words (chosen from a list provided by Ali) to the photo. That's it. Simple, right?

Here are my photo and words. The photo was taken in mid-August at the Jersey Shore. Ocean, fresh air, sunshine. The perfect day!

On the side, I incorporated my word "fabulous" by writing, "It's okay to feel fabulous." Ali's message for this month is that "You are enough!" I love that. Image below from Pinterest

Counterfeit Kit Master Forgers' Sketch Support Blog Hop (*updated with new photos)

One Page Sketch #8

Introducing my new nephew, L!!! aka King of the Crib! Isn't he precious? This is one of my absolute favorite layouts of all time. And it's just one of many adorable photos we have of him, especially now that he's growing and smiling. I ordered the Alphabet Soup products from Fortheluvofart.com during one of her great sales. Norma is having a sale right now, in fact, with a coupon code on the FTLOA blog for $5 off of a $40 purchase. This layout was created with my CKC August Second Kit: Lion's Roar {for Boys and Men} Photos here and here I just loved using this sketch. And having my kit all ready to go made the layout creation process very fast!

I made these embellishments with my August Counterfeit Kit inspired by all the embellishments you see below. I had fun making all the layers. I made the scallop base with my Nestabilities die. I think I'll use this file folder as a journaling card on a layout.

Counterfeit Kit Challenge #1: Sketch Swap Challenge

Ok, apparently I don't follow directions very well as the August Guest Designer for the Counterfeit Kit Challenge. LOL I was so excited to participate in this challenge that I picked out a sketch and made a layout that I didn't realize that we were supposed to do the OPPOSITE (instead of a layout make a card or vice versa)!!!!! Oops!

Here is the official challenge information from the Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog:

We love "Sketch Support Sketches...we will be doing all of our challenges based on those this month. Don't get too far ahead of me, though. Each challenge will still have our own twist on it.

Challenge #1: Sketch Swap Challenge

Head on over to the Sketch Support site and pick a sketch. Now use that sketch to make the opposite of what you picked. If you picked a card sketch...use it to make a layout. If you picked a layout sketch, use it to make a card. Don't forget to show us which sketch you are using for this challenge!"

I made the zipper flower from two zippers using these tutorials from Pinterest. They were such fun, you have got to try it!

Tea Time - Counterfeit Kit Challenge Layout #1

There is a lovely Tea House in town called La-Tea-Da, and we go there at least twice a year, I even bought a Groupon for the full tea ($8 for an $16 tea & finger-food meal) this spring. This is a photo of some of the teacups just sitting at the waitress station. I think the K&Co. Madeline embellishments fit perfectly here.

Guess Who's The August Guest Designer for the Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog!

Woot! I was thrilled to be asked to be the August Guest Designer (check out my intro here) for the Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog. You can check out all the information about the challenge blog and this month's inspiration right here. When I saw the Album Inspiration Kit, I knew right away I would be using my stash of K&Co. Madeline Collection as the basis of my main kit.

My Main Kit

I was excited to keep the same color scheme as the Album Kit: pinks, golds, and blues. Like the inspiration kit, I picked out florals, tone on tone patterned papers, and while the photos look colorful, it's actually quite shabby chic in person. I was able to add in a few newer papers from Girls Paperie.

The embellishments in my Main Kit are inspired by the papers that I picked out. I love embellishments, I am a scrapper that goes heavy on embellishments on my layouts so you will see that I also have an embellishment add-on kit too. In the Main Kit, I have yummy Melissa Frances crowns and keyholes, Prima flowers, and lots of K&Co. Madeline embellishments that I hoarded when that line was released way back when. LOL

My Embellishment Biggie Add-On Kit

In this add-on, vintage is the name of the game. First off, there are coordinating pieces of paper from my scraps box, as well as coordinating card-stock in kraft, white, light blue, pink, and cream. Regarding embellishments, you can see why I just can't bring myself to buy new kits when I have such a big stash at home.

In this kit I have border rub-ons, yummy buttons mixed with vintage doo-dadds, vintage lace and seam ribbon, a Melissa Frances Vintage Tag Kit, vintage blue and pink beads, Girls Paperie diecuts, Prima flowers, and lots of fun brads.The gold vintage metal findings are from a local store, flea market meets garage sale meets a lady's closet, called Utter Clutter.

Speaking of embellishments, I want to share a great embellishment tutorial I found that I used for this kit on a layout you'll see soon. It's a zipper flower, and the tutorial is here.

Julie's Stamps and Punches Add-On

I almost always include stamps in my kits, and then never use them! I'm not much of a stamper, so I decided to change things up this time. I decided to stamp out the images now, so they are ready to go. I'm quite proud of myself for doing so. And you'll see my stamping is not perfect, so I hope you'll be inspired to do some stamping too, and embrace the imperfection.

I also picked out some feminine border punches as well, and will use those as I go. My punches are all Martha Stewart, except for a few of the butterfly punches (not pictured).

Julie Ann's Second Kit: Lion's Roar {for Boys and Men}

I have a new nephew, and had this Alphabet Soup papers and tags (by My Mind's Eye) calling out to me, so I had to make another kit around this starting point. I just pulled any paper that could co-ordinate and matched the same hues. So I ended up with some papers for Men as well in this kit which is ok with me, as the men in my life should not be neglected. LOL

I'm very excited about this kit with the Prima Lion, lots of yummy ribbon, Hambly rubons (although they might be too old to work - I have such trouble with old Hambly rubons), and new Studio Calico cloud rubons!

I did the same thing in this kit as I did in the other, I pre-stamped some images of an owl and "baby". I picked out the exact stamp colors I want to use in case I want to do more stamping, and also stamp markers as well, and also I have set aside which journaling marker I want to use. Of course I have alphas (lots and lots of letters!), mists, tags, colorful brads, and fabric rips. I also had a digital kit add-on set aside in Picasa on my laptop but my laptop died. I'll try to have a screenshot of the digi add-on for you today or tomorrow (Aug. 6th or 7th), fingers crossed! I've been creating with these kits already and I'm super thrilled to start sharing with you this weekend! xoxo

Homemade Smash Book It's Okay: Just Smash It All In! Summer Mini for Counterfeit Kit Summer Challenge

Are you smashing? Yes? No? Don't have a clue what I'm talking about? Something that is a new trend in scrapbooking is a Smash Book, sold by K & Co. and all it's accessories. Here is an excellent video presentation from CHA 2011 by Noell Hyman of paperclipping, where she shows you several Smash Books and explains the whole concept:

And for you scrapbookers who have been around for a long time and just don't get the whole Smash Book trend, you might enjoy reading Shimelle's blog post "True Thoughts on Smash Books and Scrapbooking." It's exactly why I'm making my own instead of buying one, as I have not ordered or purchased any of the Smash products. Yet. LOL

MY SMASH BOOK SUMMER MINI
At the Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog, they have declared a Summer Long Smash Book Counterfeit Challenge. There are lots of ideas at that link. Last year I loved making a Summer Journal from my class with Kara Haupt. So I thought this challenge would be great to make another summer journal. I used my Main Counterfeit Kit for July.

The cover is corrugated cardboard with a vintage book page, handmade flower, and thickers.

The inside cover is a collage of papers, and the journal card folds down. On the right, the envelope is attached to the transparency, actually it is from a magazine as it was out of a perfume ad.
